On Tuesday, January 19, at 6:30 p.m., local veterinarian Howard L. Rand, DVM, CVA, BS pharm, will conduct a seminar on “Allergies and Your Pets” at Animals by Nature, one of the area’s leading pet stores, located at 1215 Mango Avenue in Sarasota.
As a practitioner of holistic and conventional veterinary medicine, Dr. Rand is one of only a few veterinarians in the country certified in Noninvasive Allergy Testing and Treatment (NAET). In his seminar on “Allergies and Your Pet,” Dr. Rand will discuss and demonstrate the holistic treatment of allergies in animals.
During his 50-plus year career as a veterinarian, Dr. Rand has seamlessly integrated holistic principles into his conventional practice of veterinary medicine. Following extensive study of acupuncture in China and Japan, Dr. Rand became one of the first veterinarians to practice acupuncture in the Southeast United States, and he has earned worldwide respect for his work in veterinary acupuncture.
After earning a degree in pharmacy from Fordham University College of Pharmacy and a veterinary degree from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Rand opened his own equine practice in the rural outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia, where he treated horses exclusively for more than two decades. The Equine Hospital was the only horse hospital and the first privately owned veterinary facility of its kind in the state of Georgia. He later expanded the practice to include veterinary care of small animals.
According to Dr. Rand, more than 50 percent of all domestic animals suffer from allergies. Most animals, he claims, suffer from multiple allergies. Dr. Rand’s certification in NAET Allergy Testing and Treatment, a noninvasive, holistic approach to allergy identification, enables him to eliminate allergens from an animal’s system without the use of drugs. Instead, Dr. Rand uses alternative therapies, including acupuncture, acupressure, chiropractic, nutrition, and Applied Kinesiology to restore well-being.
Dr. Rand currently sees patients at two local veterinary offices: West Coast Veterinary Center, located on SR 72 in Sarasota, and Ranch Animal Hospital on Corridor Place in Lakewood Ranch.
